Privacy Policy.
Somote collects no personal data. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and nothing about you is sent to us. The phrases you write, the photos you add, the affirmations you record in your own voice and the settings you choose stay on your own device.
What we collect
Nothing. Somote does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other identifying information, and it does not require an account. We operate no servers that receive your data. Buying a subscription involves the store that takes the payment, which is covered further down.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Somote is stored in the app's own folder on your computer, or in the app's private storage on your phone:
- The phrases and playlists you write.
- Any photos you choose to add, copied into the app's own folder. Somote never scans or uploads your photo library.
- Any affirmations you record in your own voice, saved as audio files.
- Your display, sound and voice settings.
- Any content packs you install.
None of it is transmitted off your device. You can export your playlists to a text file you keep, and uninstalling Somote removes all of it permanently.
Your voice recordings
Recording your own voice is the one feature that touches your microphone, and it does so only while you are recording, only after you press record. If you never record, Somote never uses your microphone.
Recordings are saved as ordinary audio files on your own device. They are never uploaded, never processed on a server, and never used to train anything. Deleting a recording in the Voice tab deletes the file.
Recordings are kept in local application data rather than your roaming profile. Managed and work machines often copy the roaming profile to a server when you log in; keeping audio out of it means your recorded voice cannot be carried off your computer that way.
Recordings, photos and phrases are excluded from Google cloud backup and from phone-to-phone transfer, so they stay on the device that made them. Moving to a new phone means recording again; playlists can be carried across with the text export.
What the overlay can see
It can't share what it can't see. The overlay is a one-way pane of glass: it draws your words over the screen, and that is the entire extent of its powers. It has no ability to read, capture or record what is beneath it. No screen capture, no keylogging, no reading of other windows.
When Somote uses the network
On Windows, the only thing the app ever sends anywhere is your license key, to Gumroad, to check that your subscription is active. Nothing else leaves the machine. If you are offline, Plus keeps working for fourteen days from the last successful check.
On Android, Google Play handles the subscription, and tapping Restore sends the license key you enter to the store to confirm a pack you already bought — and nothing else.
Somote contains no advertising, no third-party analytics and no trackers. Downloading the app or a content pack from somote.app is an ordinary web request to our host, like visiting any page.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Gumroad on the web and by Google Play on Android. They collect what they need to sell you a subscription and to email you your license key, under their own policies — Gumroad's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy. Somote never sees or stores your card or billing details.
This website
somote.app sets no cookies for tracking or advertising and runs no analytics. One item is saved in your browser's local storage: whether you last read the site in light or dark mode.
Two third parties are involved in serving the pages. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, and the buy button loads Gumroad's checkout script on pages where you can subscribe; both see the request your browser makes to them. Our host keeps ordinary server logs — the page requested, the time, the requesting address — for security and reliability.
Children
Somote is not directed to children under 13, and in any case collects no personal information from anyone.
Deleting your data, and your rights
Because your data lives only on your device, you are always the one holding it: delete individual phrases, playlists, photos or recordings inside the app, or uninstall Somote to remove everything at once.
If you are in the EU, the UK or California, the law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to send, correct or erase. Records of your purchase are held by the store that processed it, and requests about those go to them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update it here and revise the effective date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app store listing.
